Gropiusstadt Bird's Nest Playground

Whether reed, cave, open-air or ground-nesting birds, the Vogelnest playground in Gropiusstadt features eleven themed play areas for nature explorers of all ages. The project was commissioned by the Berlin-Neukölln District Office.
The highlight of the site is a play and climbing tower around seven metres high. Anyone wishing to climb it can take the route via a net ladder. The more daring can reach the tower platform by jumping from a net bridge across a (well-secured chasm) onto the tower platform. The descent back to the ground is via a tube slide. Right next to it, creatively designed balancing and wobbly elements, as well as a sandpit, provide plenty of fun for playing and moving around. A particular focus during the design of the facilities was on their inclusive layout, primarily to enable children with disabilities to participate as fully as possible in the play activities.
In close cooperation with the responsible landscape architecture firm, the existing plans were further developed for production and construction. Particular attention was paid to the DIN standards for public play areas in the areas of safety and inclusion. And this was always done with an eye to structural feasibility, particularly regarding statics and durability, whilst taking into account the appearance of the facilities and their play value.
