Redesign of the accessible playground

Commissioned by the City of Nuremberg, an outdated playground was transformed into a modern, accessible play area. Based on a concept developed by the city, hochkant managed the project from planning and construction through to on-site installation. The result is an inclusive play area that offers children aged three to twelve space to play together – regardless of individual limitations.
A well-designed guidance system with colour-coded posts and a tactile edging facilitates orientation for visually impaired children and wheelchair users. All areas of the playground are accessible via barrier-free access points. The play towers are designed from stacked blocks connected by climbing elements, with slides providing fun ways to descend. Thanks to accessible ramps and entrances, wheelchair users can also explore the towers. This project has created a playground that not only promotes fun but also encourages interaction and togetherness.
