Between Weitnau and Missen-Wilhams Carl-Hirnbein Path

“All about cheese, or what?” is the title of a new information panel on the “Carl-Hirnbein-Weg”. This stop focuses
on the introduction of dairy farming in the Allgäu and is representative of over 40 newly created information and activity stops, all of which revolve around the Allgäu pioneer Carl Hirnbein. The themed trail connects the municipalities of Weitnau and Missen-Wilhams (Upper Allgäu) and has now been redesigned in its twentieth year of existence and expanded to include two circular routes. The new stations were based on a preliminary concept drawn up by a
citizens’ project group.

Great attention was paid to content research and the sourcing of historical imagery during the creation of the stations. As thematic trails rely above all on a factually accurate presentation of the content, the Allgäu filmmaker and historian Leo Hiemer, a recognised Hirnbein expert, was brought on board specifically for this project.

In addition to the concept and graphic design of the signs, the team at hochkant was also responsible for the construction of the stations and their on-site installation. To keep maintenance costs for the local authorities to a minimum, durable woods such as solid larch or black locust trunks were used. Interactive elements such as telescopes, folding panels or rotating signs were made entirely from durable stainless steel.
